Samsung TV QN850C vs QN800C: What is the difference

If you want to buy an 8K resolution Samsung TV and choose the 8 series, you may take a look at QN800C, an 8K TV available in 65″, 75″, and 85″ screen sizes. It features a QLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate. This TV is offered on Samsung’s website; you can find it in the header menu, TV&Audio -TVs by resolution – 8K TVs.

But Costco also has something to offer; you can find the QN850C model there (it may have a QN850CD model number, but that’s the same). You can find the QN850C model on Samsung’s website through a search, but you won’t find it in the 8K TVs section, and here’s why.

Samsung QN800C vs QN850C TVs

QN850C is almost an exact copy of the Samsung QN800C but with a better audio system. The QN850C is an exclusive model created and available only at Costco. Costco is a major retailer that has a contract to sell Samsung TVs. Samsung, in turn, can produce televisions specifically for Costco that differ in technical parameters from regular Samsung televisions. In our case, the QN850C is different and has improved specifications, which should encourage the customer to buy a TV at Costco.

Samsung QN850C vs QN800C tech differences

TVs have the same screens and motherboards. But the sound of QN850C is better than QN800C; it has 12 speakers and a proper format of 6.2.4CH. Eight speakers and four subwoofers. The total power of the sound system is 90W. By comparison, the QN800C has a 4.2.2CH sound system and 70W power. The QN850C has better bass, but a separate speaker system is still the best solution. Otherwise, they are identical TVs.

Service support: QN850C vs QN800C

Now on to what the other differences are. The most significant differences are in warranty service. The QN800C has a one-year warranty. The QN850C, which is sold at Costco, has a 5-year warranty. The warranty on the QN850C is as follows.

One year of TV use: The standard warranty from Samsung applies; you will need to contact Samsung in case of a malfunction.
2-year TV: The second year is covered by the standard two-year warranty for TVs purchased at Costco. In the event of a problem, you must contact Costco Technical Support.
Three to five years of TV use: The Allstate 3-Year Protection Plan will kick in if your TV breaks after two years. You must contact Costco Technical Support, who will direct you on proceeding.

What’s better to buy: QN850C vs QN800C?

Of course, it is preferable to buy a QN850C TV. Better sound and, most importantly, a 5-year warranty. I hope your TV doesn’t break, but the 5-year warranty will save you the extra repair cost if it does mainly.

The price situation is quite interesting. 85-inch QN800C costs $6000, as stated on the official Samsung website. At the same time, QN850C in Costco (and I remind you, this is the only store with the official sale of this TV) costs $5700. it is very strange that a TV that has an improved audio system costs less than the regular version.

Here is the breakdown of the QN800C prices based on different screen sizes:

  • 65”: $3500
  • 75”: $4500
  • 85”: $6000

The QN850C also comes in 65-inch, 75-inch, and 85-inch screen sizes. However, at the time of writing, Costco only offers the Samsung QN850C in one size – 85-inch – for $5700.

So I think the choice is obvious in the direction of QN850C especially considering its price

Please note that these prices are indicative and may vary based on factors such as location, retailer, and promotions. It’s always recommended to check with authorized Samsung retailers or online platforms to get the most accurate and up-to-date pricing information.
