List of Dyson Airwrap models by generation and model

The first Airwrap styler was introduced in 2018 and made a lot of noise. Since then, there have only been two generations of Airwap, the HS01 (first generation) and HS05 (second generation), and models that differ in the attachments that come with it and the color of the styler, which creates a lot of models in which it is easy to get confused.

The HS01 is outdated in terms of features. Of course, that doesn’t mean you can’t use it or that your hair will turn out worse. It’s just that the first-generation Airwrap requires a little more effort and time.

As you may have noticed, there are only two generations of the Airwrap. However, dozens, if not hundreds, of different models are available worldwide. The models vary primarily in two main features: color and the set of hair attachments. There are basic models designed for most users and customized models tailored for specific hair types. Additionally, the availability of models varies by country, influenced by both the population’s purchasing power and the predominant hair types in the region.

First generation Dyson Airwrap – HS01

The real difference between the HS01 and HS05 lies in the attachments. In the first generation, to curl your hair, you had to use two different attachments—one for the right side and one for the left, so the curls would turn away from your face as they should. Personally, this was a bit of a hassle for me, but from 2018 to 2022, we didn’t know it could be any different, so I didn’t complain back then.

Also, the hair drying attachment, what Dyson calls the pre-styling dryer, basically just preps your hair for styling and nothing more. It was just an attachment that blew air (in the second-gen, you can change the air direction and smooth your hair). So, considering all these points, it seems like the price was a bit steep for the first generation.

This model came in black and purple, and Dyson has stopped making it now. By the way, it was only for short hair. It came with a bunch of attachments, including a regular one for simple drying. There were even 4 attachments just for curling your hair. And it came with a black case. For the first generation, this was pretty cool.

The only thing that changed in this model is the color. Now it’s pink with nickel material. The attachments are the same: 4 for curls, 1 dryer, 1 round volumizing brush, and 2 smoothing brushes. And the case turned a copper color. It’s an unusual combo and this box got super popular.

The Dyson Airwrap Complete Long in Nickel/Fuchsia became the top seller. It’s the same model but for long hair. The only change is the length of the curling attachments. The long barrel is 30% longer.

Second generation Dyson Airwrap – HS05

In June 2022, Dyson released a new Airwrap model with a major upgrade: they combined two curling nozzles into one that can switch airflow directions with the flick of a switch on top.

The set comes with two curling nozzles: a 1.2-inch and a 1.6-inch, and the dimensions remain the same. The new Coanda Smoothing Dryer attachment dries and smooths hair at the same time. This version has three heating modes compared to the original’s four, but it still heats efficiently without making a noticeable difference in performance.

For 2023, Dyson has added a version for curly hair to the Airwrap range, introducing a diffuser, a wide-tooth comb and a large round brush for volume.

This model is always available in stores. It’s priced at 600 bucks, same as the others. It’s the first styler with fewer attachments but more functionality. The Dyson Airwrap Complete Long case is dark blue. And, by the way, I don’t like how fingerprints show up on it (wasn’t as noticeable on the previous model’s copper case). But I’m willing to let it slide.

The only difference between this model and its predecessor is its new color, which, by the way, is almost always sold out. Otherwise, the price is the same: 600 bucks for the same attachments and case.

This model stands out for both its design and attachments. Starting with the design, it’s now a bright blue, not dark like before, with pink accents. It looks unique and sold out quickly. It was hard to find in most stores.

This styler model lets you pick your own attachments. There’s a calculator on the website where you need to select your hair type, length, and Dyson will suggest a custom option for you. Among the new attachments are the 0.8 barrel for curling hair, the small soft smoothing brush, bigger brash, and a dryer with teeth. The box has turned a rich blue, just like the styler’s body.

This one’s my favorite. It came out at the end of 2023 and sold out super fast. The functionality and attachments are the same as the other Airwrap Complete Long models, but the design is something new. The case is rich turquoise, with the case lid being orange with a soft pink. The styler itself is also in turquoise and orange shades, with a pink air filter. Its price didn’t go up; it’s still 600 bucks.

In this limited edition, the functionality hasn’t changed. The attachments are the same. They added a travel pouch. Dyson called this styler orange, but it actually looks more red. And the case is a pinkish-purple shade. In my opinion, it’s the weakest design.
