Samsung remains a leader in television innovation. One of the most useful features that significantly improves the Smart TV user experience is the ability to connect a keyboard and mouse.
Keyboard and mouse support is available on Samsung TVs released since 2015 — these include series (J, K, M, N, R, S, T, A, B, C, D, F).
Some models from 2013–2014, such as the F and H series, also support keyboards, but only specific Samsung-designed ones. These models do not support keyboards from other manufacturers.
Additionally, keyboard and mouse functionality differs: the keyboard can be used for menu navigation and browsing, while the mouse works only in the browser.

Connecting a Keyboard to Samsung Smart TV

There are two ways to connect a keyboard: via USB cable or via Bluetooth.

Wired keyboard
Connecting a wired keyboard is very simple. Plug the keyboard’s USB cable into the TV’s USB port (usually on the back or side panel).
Once the TV detects the keyboard, a message will appear prompting you to select a language. After that, you can start typing immediately.

Wireless keyboard
A wireless keyboard is much more convenient since you’re not restricted by a cable.
There are two wireless connection types: via USB receiver or directly via Bluetooth.

If your keyboard has a USB receiver, simply insert it into the TV’s USB port. The TV will detect the keyboard automatically, and you’ll be able to choose your preferred language.

If you want to connect via Bluetooth, put the keyboard into pairing mode. Then on the TV, go to:
Settings > General > External Device Manager > Input Device Manager,
find the keyboard in the Bluetooth devices list, and press “Pair” to complete the connection.

Using Keyboard Shortcuts

With a keyboard, you can not only type text but also control the TV more efficiently.
For example, Page Up and Page Down allow screen scrolling, F5 returns to the home screen, and the arrow keys help you navigate menus.
You can also control volume, switch channels, or mute sound using hotkeys like F8, F9, and F10.

Connecting a Mouse to Samsung Smart TV

In addition to the keyboard, a mouse further simplifies Smart TV control, especially while browsing the web or using apps.

Wired mouse
Connect the mouse’s USB cable to a free USB port on the TV.
After a few seconds, a message will appear confirming that the mouse is connected, and you can start navigating with the cursor.

Wireless mouse
The process is nearly the same. Insert the USB receiver into the TV or, if the mouse supports Bluetooth, activate pairing mode.
Then go to:
Settings > General > External Device Manager > Input Device Manager
to connect the mouse via Bluetooth. A wireless mouse allows more comfortable control from a distance without cable limitations.

Possible Issues and Solutions

Sometimes the device might not connect properly. One common issue is that the TV doesn’t recognize it. Possible reasons include:

  • Compatibility: Not every keyboard or mouse works with Smart TVs. Only HID-compatible devices (those using standard drivers) are supported.
  • Outdated firmware: If your peripheral device is newer than the TV, a software update might be required. Alternatively, using an older keyboard or mouse can help.
  • Model year check: Make sure to check the release year of your Samsung TV to confirm if it supports external input devices. This can help you avoid unexpected issues or extra costs.
