HBO Max is one of the major streaming services you can use right now. Alongside a wide range of HBO originals, such as Westworld and Game of Thrones, it’s also well-known for a great number of platforms service is available on.
The subscription costs $15 per month, much more than Disney Plus or Netflix, but it may be worth a shot in case you’re enjoying HBO originals.
How many devices you can watch HBO Max simultaneously?
Let’s start with the short answer in order to prevent you from reading a lot of text. The short answer is: you can watch HBO Max on three devices at the same time. However, the number of devices you can sign in with your HBO Max account isn’t limited.
That means you can sign in to your HBO Max account on every device you want, but you can watch content only on three devices simultaneously.
That includes devices inside your home, or mobile devices outside it until the total number doesn’t exceed three.

As I said, the list of supported devices is really impressive, so you can watch HBO Max on almost any device. Here’s a full list:

How many devices you can sign in with HBO Max?
There is a lot of information across the Web about the limits for sign-ins to your HBO Max account. However, I haven’t found any evidence that such limits really exist. I’ve signed in on 5 different devices at one time and there’s no error or warning. It appears only when you’re trying to watch content on more than three devices at the time.
So I think you can log in with as many devices, as you want, there are no limits.
How many devices you can download content on HBO Max to watch offline?
In case you want to watch content on more than three devices, you will need to download it first. However, keep in mind that the basic plan with ads doesn’t allow you to download content (such plan costs $10 and you will need to watch 4 minutes of ads before watching content), so you will need to subscribe to a $15 ads-free plan.
HBO Max allows you to download content on up to 30 devices at the same time, so technically that means you can watch up to 33 streams at one time (I don’t have a mind whoever needs this, but the possibility still exists).
Here’s how to download content from HBO Max to watch offline:
- Open the HBO Max app.
- Choose the content you want to download.
- Tap on the Download.
- Once the downloading process is finished – you can watch the content offline.
How to fix HBO Max “Streaming on Too Many Devices” error – what does this error mean?
This error occurs when you’re trying to exceed the limit of three simultaneous streams. That means you or someone else in your household is watching HBO Max right now. You can check what device is active now. Here’s how to do this:
- Sign in (in case if needed) to HBO Max via website (on your PC or Mac) or on your phone, tablet.
- On the phone or tablet: Tap the Profile icon and then the Settings icon in the top-left corner.
- On your PC or Mac : In the top-right corner, choose your profile icon.
- Go to Manage Devices to see the full list of devices that you’ve recently signed in with your HBO Max account (it appears under Other Devices).
If all devices on the list are yours, check out whether they aren’t streaming right now (for example I sometimes forgot to exit HBO Max stream after I end up watching content). If any of the devices isn’t yours – you can contact HBO support in order to help you handle this problem.
