HBO Max is a streaming service launched by Warner Bros. Discovery in 2020, rebranded as Max in 2023. It offers a vast library of movies and TV shows, including content from Warner Bros., HBO, DC, Cartoon Network, and Studio Ghibli, along with exclusive originals. Popular Max Originals include House of the Dragon, Euphoria, Westworld, True Detective, and The Sopranos. The platform also features new Warner Bros. films shortly after their theatrical release. In select regions, it offers live sports and reality programming. Max is available in the U.S. and several countries in Europe and Latin America.
How many devices you can watch HBO Max simultaneously?
Max originally allowed up to three simultaneous video streams, but in 2023, the platform introduced three different subscription plans: With Ads, Basic, and Premium. Along with this change, the number of devices that can stream content at the same time was also updated.
- With Ads and Basic plans – allow streaming on up to two devices simultaneously.
- Premium plan – allows streaming on up to four devices at the same time.
How to Bypass the Connection Limit
If you exceed the simultaneous streaming limit on Max, you can download movies for offline viewing as an alternative, but there are restrictions based on your subscription plan.
- With Ads: Downloading is unavailable.
- Basic: You can download up to 30 videos.
- Premium: You can download up to 100 videos.
Keep in mind, not all movies are available for download—premieres, for example, typically aren’t. Additionally, there are time limitations on how long downloaded content remains available. Downloaded but unwatched movies are active for 30 days, while those you start watching must be completed within 48 hours.
While downloading works as a temporary solution, it’s not the most convenient option for long-term use.
How to Fix the “Broadcasting on Too Many Devices” Error on Max
This error occurs when you exceed the allowed number of active connections (streams) on Max. To resolve it, follow these steps to check how many devices are currently using your account:
- Open Max on your device and log into your account.
- Go to Settings (or Account Settings).
- Find the Devices (or Device Management) section.
- Here, you’ll see a list of all devices currently connected to your account for streaming.
If you find that the number of active devices exceeds your subscription’s limit, you can deactivate older devices or log out of your account on other devices to free up space for new connections.
