Does it worth subscribing to YouTube Premium

YouTube Premium is the same as YouTube, only with additional benefits for a fee. Many people mistakenly think that the whole point of a premium account is just the absence of ads on YouTube. However, it’s not as simple as it seems.

Is it a good idea to subscribe to YouTube Premium

Everyone is used to YouTube being a bottomless barrel of all kinds of free content. Let’s first look at history.

YouTube’s wide release marked the beginning of its development. There were no similar services at the time, so the site quickly began to gain popularity. Already in July 2006, its audience reached 100 million users, and the number of uploaded videos was 65,000. Around that time Google got interested in the service and bought it in the fall of that year for $ 1.65 billion.

After that, the founders left the project: now those who created “YouTube” don’t participate in its development. Initially, the position of CEO remained with Chad Hurley, but on October 28, 2010, he resigned. True, he retained the position of consultant. Prior to buying YouTube, Google has owned its own video hosting site Google Video – the corporation didn’t close it, transforming it into a service to search videos all over the Internet, including YouTube.

Nowadays, one of the main achievements of YouTube is the Premium subscription. Let’s take a closer look at what’s so unique about it and whether it’s worth trying.

What are the reasons to buy a YouTube Premium Subscription

Many people mistakenly think that the whole point of a premium account is just the absence of ads on YouTube. Despite the fact that this is indeed a very powerful argument, there are a lot of other interesting features that Google provides to users of premium service. However, let’s talk about all of them step by step.

No ads

For many, it doesn’t take much to explain how annoying YouTube ads can be. In the past, you only had to wait a few seconds before moving on to the video, but now the video can be interrupted “for a commercial break” up to 5 times per viewing. And it’s not always convenient to skip ads (for example, if your hands are wet, or you’re watching the video on a device you can’t reach with your hand).

For example, if you turn on relaxing music before going to sleep (there are such selections for sleep/study/reading). And when suddenly, in the middle of soporific motifs abruptly heard a scream about the next crazy discounts in some store – it’s really annoying.

So, the lack of ads is the first reason to switch to YouTube Premium.

Listen to YouTube on your walks

If you like to listen to music or audiobooks while walking (on foot or bicycle), you may know that you used to have to download a book in advance if you wanted to spend your time usefully.

Now all of YouTube is available for listening to. You open your favorite channel, turn off the screen, and listen to the audio track on your headphones. This isn’t only convenient, but also quite economical (when the screen is off, the app only downloads sound instead of video through the mobile network).

Without a Premium subscription, the video is turned off, of course, along with your smartphone screen.

Watch YouTube without distracting from other activities

On almost any Android smartphone you can split the screen into two parts and watch YouTube while reading the news or chatting on a messenger. YouTube Premium gives you even more freedom with the Picture-in-Picture feature. Thus, you can even play “heavy” games and simultaneously watch your favorite YouTube channel on top of the game.

By the way, this is quite a popular feature of today’s teenagers (playing games while watching videos).

Thanks to the picture-in-picture feature, you can switch between applications and work fully with your smartphone without stopping the video at the same time. It is very convenient when playing the same music on YouTube.

YouTube Music as a bonus

When you pay for YouTube Premium, you automatically get YouTube Music in addition.

Watch your favorite videos offline

With a premium account under each video in the YouTube app, there’s a “Save button, by pressing which the video will be downloaded to your smartphone for further viewing without connecting to the Internet

Before you hit the road, you can download the clips you’ve been wanting to watch for a long time and have a good (or fun) time on the road. All downloaded videos are in the Library section.

Family Subscription

YouTube Premium will be linked to your Google Account (simply put, your Gmail account). You can get all the benefits of the premium service on all your devices without any limitations. The only requirement is that all of these devices must have your Google account.

For me, this is one of the most positive qualities of this subscription. The thing is that you can add to your Google family up to 5 people, and then each of them can get the same YouTube Premium and all other family subscription features for free on their Google account.

And the most important thing is that the service works absolutely on all platforms.

I believe that YouTube Premium is really worth it to at least try it out. Especially since you will have a free trial period, after which you will make sure that you no longer want to watch ads and suddenly pause videos after turning off your smartphone screen.
