The Crystal UHD Series TV, model DU6900, is available in stores across the U.S. and Canada. For those not well-versed in the latest TV technology, understanding the differences between the DU6900 and DU7200 models can be challenging. Although Samsung markets the DU6900 as a 7-series model, there are inconsistencies with Samsung’s typical TV ranking system. Here are the key differences between the two models.
Features of the DU6900 and DU7200 TVs
Both the DU6900 and DU7200 models belong to a super budget series with minimal functionality. These TVs feature inexpensive screens and low-power processors, resulting in limited image display capabilities. They utilize screens with an 8-bit color depth and a flickering backlight (FRC), which cannot accurately display a wide range of color shades. Consequently, the claimed HDR support is ineffective, as the TVs cannot display video according to HDR standards, which require a 10-bit color depth display. Also note that the TVs support a maximum of 60Hz, respectively have HDMI 2.0 ports, but support VRR.
The advertised PurColor technology, used in these models, is a contrast enhancement technology that has been used in LED TVs since 2015. It does not offer any unique advantages. The DU6900 TVs are available in 50 and 75-inch sizes, indicating the use of older components that were not in demand in previous production cycles.
Real Differences Between the DU6900 and DU7200 TVs
Remote Controls: The DU6900 comes with a standard TM2240A remote, which is a universal remote operating only in the infrared range and does not support voice control. Current practices suggest that if a Smart remote is not included with the TV, it will not work with it even if purchased separately. However, this practice may change, as the DU6900 is the only 2024 model that comes without a Smart remote.
Number of HDMI Ports: The DU6900 has only two HDMI ports, which is relatively low by today’s standards. However, given the budget status of the TV, these two ports may be sufficient for many users.
