That’s quite an interesting question for a lot of Samsung Smart TV owners. The reason is that TVs have a rather limited amount of free memory. And in the process, the TV gradually writes information to the memory and at a certain point, the memory may not be enough. You may see a message on the TV screen that there isn’t enough memory to install apps.
Is it possible to physically increase the memory in a Samsung TV
You should know that you cannot physically increase the memory on your Samsung TV. Just like with your phone, you can’t go and install more of the memory in your TV. That’s simply not possible.
However, there is another possibility to increase the available memory a little: you can transfer apps to external memory using a USB flash drive. By installing a flash drive, you can install apps not to the TV’s internal memory, but to an external flash drive. This way you can free up some memory on your TV.
Also, in some way, this method can be seen as ‘adding more memory to your Samsung TV’. However, don’t forget that external storage has some limitations.
How you can increase the memory in your TV
The only way to increase the amount of memory on your Samsung TV is to free up memory. As I said before, if you encounter a lack of memory, move applications to external memory.
You can also remove unused apps and if you’re using the browser to surf the Internet, do the following:
- Go to your browser settings
- Look for Clear Browsing History
- Make sure that you have choose Clear Cache Files
Be sure to free the browser cache, as the browser used in the Tizen operating system for Samsung TVs creates many cache memory files, recording page visits, and other information.
All these steps are probably not the thing you were looking for, however, they can help you and your Smart TV a little bit.
You say that external storage “has some limitations,” but what are the limitations? Does it slow down the streaming?
I was hoping just plugging the USB drive in would automatically expand the memory. It didn’t. I’m going to now try your suggestion and move some apps over and hope it works. I don’t know how I will access those apps that are on there. But I’ve got my fingers crossed.
I really wish Samsung would just put at least a reasonable amount of memory on. I only have 6 apps before it says I’m full. And they won’t let me delete the ones that are pre-installed (and duplicated with my other device).
If your TV is low on memory and only 6 applications are installed, the TV memory is full of cache.
1. When you turn on the TV, hold down the power button for at least 20 seconds. The cache memory will be cleared.
2. Go to your browser and delete your browsing history.
